Sensex reclaims 79k level, Nifty surges 557.35 points
MUMBAI [Maha Media]: Benchmark equity indices rebounded sharply on Friday, with the Sensex climbing 2.54 percent to reclaim the 79,000 level, driven by across-the-board rally and value buying at lower levels.
Strong buying by domestic institutional investors and a firm trend in the US markets also helped the indices, traders said.
The BSE benchmark Sensex jumped 1,961.32 points or 2.54 percent to settle at 79,117.11. During the day, it surged 2,062.4 points or 2.67 per cent to 79,218.19.
The Nifty registered days high and low at 23,956.10 pts and 23,359 pts respectively. The stocks that lifted the market were IT by 3.26 pc, IT focus by 3.18 pc, Energy by 2.19 pc, and FMCG by 2.18 pc. The Mid-cap rose by 1.26 pc and the Small-cap by 0.90 pc. In 30 scrips, 29 advanced while one declined.
The gainers were SBI by 4.51 pc to Rs 816.05, TCS by 4.13 pc to Rs 4245.75, Titan by 4.10 pc to Rs 3309.10, ITC by 3.92 pc to Rs 475.05 and Infosys by 3.75 pc to Rs 1902.95. The sole loser was HDFC Bank by 0.03 pc to Rs 1741.40.
