Sensex slips 467 points
MUMBAI [Maha Media]: The benchmark Indian equity indices ended the week’s last trading session in negative territory, led by losses across counters. The BSE Sensex plunged 466.75 points or 0.55 per cent to settle at 83,938.71 levels.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 dropped 155.75 points or 0.60 per cent to settle at 25,722.10.
Barring BEL, Larsen & Toubro, TCS, ITC, and State Bank of India (SBI), all other constituent stocks of the Sensex settled lower on Thursday, logging losses of up to 3.45 per cent, with Eternal, NTPC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj FinServ, ICICI Bank, and HDFC Bank being the top laggards.
The pressure was equally pronounced on the broader market, as Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 indices settled lower by 0.45 per cent and 0.48 per cent, respectively.
Barring Nifty PSU Bank (up 1.5 per cent) and Nifty Oil & Gas (up 0.07 per cent), all other sectoral indices on the NSE settled lower, with Nifty Metal and Media indices being the worst hit, falling over 11 per cent each.
Market breadth remained negative, as 1806 out of 3181 traded stocks on the NSE settled lower, while 1266 ended in green. Meanwhile, 109 stocks remained unchanged on Friday.
