SC to hear petitions against SIR
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: The Supreme Court will today hear the petition of the Communist Party of India challenging the SIR process in Kerala. The Kerala government's petitions have sought to postpone the SIR process due to local body elections in the state.
Earlier, on November 26, the Court had sought a response from the Election Commission on several petitions filed by political leaders, activists, and NGOs challenging the SIR exercise in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and other states.
Meanwhile, amidst SIR in West Bengal, 100% enumeration forms were digitized at several booths. The Election Commission had some doubts about 2208 polling stations when zero uncollectable forms were found.
Uncollectable forms include categories like death, duplicate, absent, and shifted voters. The Election Commission's software did not find a single uncollectable form at these booths, even though it is not possible that not a single voter falls into those 4 categories.
The Election Commission asked the CEO's office to investigate and submit a report. Following this, CEO Manoj Agarwal asked the DEOs of the concerned districts to submit a report within 24 hours, i.e., by Tuesday.
