3-year-old Sarvagya Kushwaha gets FIDE rating

SAGAR [Maha Media]: Sarvagya Singh Kushwaha from India has made history at the tender age of just 3 years, 7 months and 20 days. This young player from Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh has achieved an official FIDE rating, setting a new world record as the youngest rated chess player.

He achieved this feat by breaking the record of Anish Sarkar from Kolkata, who had reached this milestone last year at the age of three years, 8 months, and 19 days.

Sarvagya, who is in nursery, has a chess understanding and playing ability far beyond his age; his rapid rating is 1572. According to Sarvagya's father, Siddharth Singh, he encouraged his son towards chess last year, observing his amazing memory and fast learning ability.

In just one week, he correctly learned the names of all the pieces and their moves. He possesses such concentration and patience, which is rare in children his age.

Little Sarvagya practices chess for four to five hours daily. He practices for an hour at a local training center. Additionally, he learns techniques from online videos. The special thing is that he can play for hours without getting tired, even waking up at night.

Gets toffee and chips for every correct move

Coach Nitin Chaurasia says that it was difficult to train Sarvagya initially. He would cry even at a slight scolding. So, he adopted an interesting method. He would encourage him by giving him toffee or chips for every correct move. Sarvagya's style of pressing the clock shows that he doesn't want his opponent to feel comfortable.

At the age when Sarvagya achieved a FIDE rating, legends like Anand, Carlsen and Gukesh had not even started playing. World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen started playing at 5 years old, 5-time world champion Anand at six years old, and World Champion D. Gukesh at seven years old.
