PM Modi likely to file nomination for Varanasi on May 14

NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to file his nomination on May 14 for Varanasi constituency for Lok Sabha polls and will hold a road show a day earlier.  Congress has fielded Ajay Rai against him. Varanasi will go to poll in the seventh phase on June 1.

The process of nomination filing for the seventh phase of Lok Sabha elections will begin from May 7 and end on May 14.

Rai is making his third bid for the Varanasi seat in Uttar Pradesh, having previously contested against Prime Minister Modi and suffered defeat in both the 2014 and 2019 general elections.

Apart from Rai, stand-up comedian Shyam Rangeela has also announced his electoral debut from Varanasi against Modi. Hailing from Rajasthan, Shyam Rangeela is renowned for his uncanny mimicking of Prime Minister Modi.

Rangeela announced his candidature from Varanasi for the Lok Sabha 2024 on social media on Wednesday, May 1.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Prime Minister scored a massive victory by a margin of 4,79,505 votes. Modi secured as many as 6,74,664 votes, while his nearest rival Samajwadi Party candidate Shalini Yadav bagged 1,95,159 votes.

During the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Modi secured victory in Varanasi by a substantial margin of 3.37 lakh votes, defeating Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, who managed to secure 2 lakh votes.
