Delhi University to include chapters on ‘Savarkar’
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: Delhi University has decided to include chapters on Vinayak Damodar ‘Savarkar’. Delhi University Vice Chancellor Prof Yogesh Singh during a book launch today said that a decision has been taken to teach Savarkar in the syllabus of the University of Delhi.
Delhi University has faced criticism from a section of academics for removing chapters on Iqbal. Prof Singh once again said that the History of freedom fighters should be taught, not those who broke India.
Prof Singh was speaking during the release of Prof. K.L. Johar's book "Uttar Pradesh ke Svatantrta Senani".
Prof. Singh, while discussing Veer Damodar Savarkar, said that why should one shy away from discussing the person who was punished for two births, and who worked for the country throughout his life? He told that a decision has been taken to teach Savarkar in the syllabus of the University of Delhi.
Prof. Yogesh Singh, referring to Shyamji Krishna Verma, who founded the India House in London, said that his ashes were preserved in St. George's Cemetery in Geneva. On August 22, 2003, 55 years after India's independence, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi requested the Swiss government to send the ashes of Shyamji Krishna Verma and his wife to India from Geneva.
Expressing surprise, the Vice-Chancellor said that on the one hand, people forget the ashes of Shyamji Verma kept abroad, and on the other hand, the lesson of Mohammad Iqbal is taught in the syllabus.
“Why should the one who laid the foundation of Pakistan and broke India be taught here?” Prof Singh said. He said that it is necessary to inculcate such feelings through these books.
The Vice-Chancellor said that this is the India of the 21st century, in which the young generation has to be prepared in such a way that it can make the country a developed nation by 2047. The role of professors will be important in this. Prof. Yogesh Singh said that if this country remains, we will remain; Professors and universities also have a big role in creating this feeling. These books will be very useful in this.
