According to a CBC News report, dissenting MPs voiced growing discontent and outlined their grievances in a pivotal caucus meeting held while the House of Commons is in session.
As Trudeau faces mounting pressure, dissenting MPs issued an ultimatum, pressing him to determine his future by October 28. A document presented in the meeting supported Trudeau's resignation, hinting at a potential Liberal revival akin to the Democrats' surge after President Biden's re-election decision.
Approximately 20 MPs, excluding cabinet ministers, stood to advocate for Trudeau's step-down, while others voiced support for the embattled Prime Minister. Immigration Minister Marc Miller acknowledged the tensions, stressing the importance of addressing concerns directly.
The controversy is further inflamed by worsening Canada-India relations, after Trudeau's 'credible allegations' linking India to the assassination of a Khalistani terrorist.
