Visit of Prez Murmu to Meghalaya cancelled
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: President Droupadi Murmu’s scheduled visit to Meghalaya on Thursday has been cancelled due to the bad weather.
Murmu was scheduled to inaugurate the golden jubilee celebrations of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for the NorthEastern Hills Region at Umiam in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district.
“The President has cancelled her visit to the State due to bad weather. The new date for his visit will be announced later,” an ICAR official said. However, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Meghalaya Governor Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will attend inaugural programme.
The President was also scheduled to inaugurate the farmers’ expo which will be participated by farmers and selfhelp groups from across the seven northeastern states and Sikkim. She would also interact with the progressive farmers at the expo. ICAR Research Complex for North-Eastern Hills Region, a premier research institute, was established in January 9, 1975 to cater to the research needs of the tribal areas of the region.
The institute has been promoting and conducting research, extension and human resource development activities in agriculture and allied sectors for hilly and mountain ecosystem of North Eastern Hill Region.
Tomorrow, President Murmu will grace the valedictory session of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention and present the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards at Bhubaneswar.
