Sixth day of Navratr: Devotees worship Goddess Katyayani

NEW DELHI [Maha Merdia]: Today is the sixth day of Shardiya Navratri. On this day, the devotees worship Goddess Katyayani. 

She is the sixth manifestation of Goddess Durga and represents bravery, triumph, wisdom and harmony. Warrior Goddess, Maa Katyayani, who embodies the fiercest aspect of Goddess Durga is also known as Mahishasurmardini for her triumph over the demon King Mahishasura. 

She is seen riding on a lion, holding a sword and a lotus flower in her left hand, and Abhaya and Varada mudras in her right hand. If we go by the scriptures, the gods were angry with the demon Mahishasura, so they together created Maa Katyayani with their combined energy. She represents energy and harmony. It is said that with her blessings, one can drive out evil spirits and remove obstacles in life. Also, unmarried girls fast on this day to be blessed with a perfect husband.
