NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: Incumbent Ecuadorean President Daniel Noboa, known to be a close ally of US President Donald Trump, has secured victory in the presidential elections of the South American nation, winning a four-year second term.
The right-wing leader managed to defeat his left-wing opponent Luisa González by a narrow margin, securing a 55.85% of the vote, compared to a 44.15% for the former congresswoman, according to The Guardian.
Securing a 90% vote, Noboa defined his victory as “historic” and has vowed to continue his “war on drugs”.
The Ecuadorian President’s leadership has been marked by his tough stance on crime in the Latin American nation, unleashing military crackdowns on criminal entities.
His campaign was also notable for its focus on young people, as the 37-year-old placed a strong emphasis on job creation and slick social media videos. He also pledged to invest in infrastructure in the country and tackle corruption.
