MP residents face higher costs from today
BHOPAL [Maha Media]: People in Madhya Pradesh will face higher costs starting on the first day of the new financial year. Property in Bhopal has become more expensive, and electricity prices have risen by an average of 3.46 paise.
If you plan to travel on the National Highway, be aware that toll taxes have also increased. Here are the new rules effective from April 1, 2025.
Property
Property prices in Bhopal have increased by 10 to 50 percent at 1,312 locations. In the last ten years, rapid development in Bhopal has led to high increases in property prices. According to the Registration Department's Guideline 2025-26 proposal, in the Bima Kunj area, property prices rose from Rs 20,000 per square meter in 2015-16 to between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh per square meter in 2025-26. There are seven locations in the city where land prices now range from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 4 lakh per square meter.
Toll Tax
New toll rates took effect on April 1. All types of vehicles will pay an additional toll from Rs 5 to Rs 25. The one-way toll rates are now Rs 100 for cars, Rs 160 for light vehicles, Rs 340 for buses and trucks, and Rs 370 for commercial vehicles. Officials noted that toll rates were changed in January, so this is the second increase in three months. However, some tolls, including Mangalia Toll, Methwada, and Machhalia Ghat, have not increased for cars and light vehicles, meaning no extra cost for those drivers. Commercial and heavy vehicles will face additional charges.
Electricity
Electricity prices have increased for everyone in the state. This rise will impact middle-class families and e-rickshaw drivers the most. The cost to charge e-rickshaws is up by 24 paise, and high-pressure customers will see an increase of 26 paise in their electricity prices.
