IndiGo flight makes emergency landing due to engine failure

KOLKATA [Maha Media]: A Bengaluru-bound IndiGo flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Kolkata airport mere minutes after take-off on Friday night, due to an engine failure, according to a senior official.

Flight 6E0573, which took off at 10.36 pm, experienced failure in its left engine and landed back safely at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport at 10.53 pm, the official said.

No fire or spark was reported in the incident, as confirmed by an Airports Authority of India spokesperson on Saturday. The emergency declared at 10.39 pm was withdrawn at 11.08 pm after both runways were handed over to Air Traffic Control (ATC) for the safe landing of the aircraft.

"It was understood that the left side engine of the aircraft failed shortly after take-off, necessitating its return to Kolkata," the spokesperson added.
