INDIA bloc leaders to discuss VP candidate today
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: The opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc may discuss its candidate for the Vice Presidential election at a key meeting on Monday morning. According to PTI, the parliamentary party meeting will begin at 10:15 AM in the office of Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge.
A senior Congress leader told The Hindu that the bloc could finalise its joint candidate by Monday evening or Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the ruling NDA on Sunday named Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as its Vice Presidential candidate.
The announcement came after the BJP parliamentary party meeting. Party president and Union Minister JP Nadda said efforts were being made to build consensus for Radhakrishnan’s unopposed election.
Radhakrishnan will file his nomination on August 21, with Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states in attendance. Voting for the Vice Presidential election is scheduled for September 9, with results to be declared the same day.
The last date for filing nominations is August 21, while candidates can withdraw until August 25.
The election was necessitated after former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, whose term was to end in August 2027, resigned unexpectedly on July 21 at the age of 74.
