MP: Heavy rainfall alert in 13 districts, including Ujjain

BHOPAL [Maha Media]: Madhya Pradesh will experience heavy rain for the next three days due to the monsoon trough and a cyclonic circulation system. An alert has been issued for 13 districts, including Ujjain, on Saturday, while Friday saw rain in 20 districts, including Bhopal.

The weather department warns of very heavy rainfall in Neemuch and Mandsaur in the next 24 hours, with heavy rain expected in Shivpuri, Morena, Guna, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Agar-Malwa, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Jhabua, and Alirajpur.

On Friday, heavy to light rain continued across Madhya Pradesh. Malajkhand in Balaghat received 1.25 inches, Mandla about 1 inch, and Pachmarhi, Narsinghpur, and Sheopur half an inch.

Heavy rains were also reported in Bhopal, Mauganj, Mandsaur, Mandla, Seoni, Narmadapuram, Sheopur, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Badwani, Ratlam, Betul, Datia, Guna, Indore, Pachmarhi, Ujjain, Chhindwara, Damoh, Jabalpur, Rewa, Sagar, Tikamgarh, and Umaria.

One gate of Tawa Dam in Narmadapuram was opened up to 3 feet to release water. Flooding of Seep River in Sheopur submerged low-lying settlements. Sawai Madhopur Road was closed after Bodal bridge was washed away.

Guna leads in rainfall with an average of 50 inches, followed by Mandla (49.1), Ashoknagar (48.4), Tikamgarh (47), and Niwari (46.6). Monsoon arrived in Madhya Pradesh on June 16, and since then an average of 33.6 inches has fallen, exceeding the expected 27.4 inches by 6.2 inches.

The state's normal average rainfall is 37 inches, meaning 81% of the seasonal rain has already occurred.
