
NRI driver arrested in Fauja Singh hit-and-run case
CHANDIGARH [Maha Media]: The driver responsible for the tragic hit-and-run incident that led to the death of 114-year-old marathon legend Fauja Singh has been arrested. The arrest was made after a thorough investigation by the Punjab police.
Amritpal Singh Dhillon, a 30-year-old non-resident Indian (NRI), was apprehended two days after the accident, which took place on the Jalandhar-Pathankot highway. Fauja Singh, famously known as the 'Turbaned Tornado,' was crossing the road near his ancestral village in Jalandhar when he was struck by a vehicle, sustaining severe head injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The vehicle involved in the incident, a Punjab-registered Toyota Fortuner, has been seized by authorities. Police sources confirmed that the car was involved in the fatal accident on Monday.
Dhillon, originally from Kartarpur in Jalandhar, had been living in Canada with his family before the tragic incident. The arrest has brought some closure to the case as authorities continue to investigate further details surrounding the incident.
