BYD overtakes Tesla to become world’s largest EV seller

NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD has overtaken Tesla to become the world’s largest EV-selling company in 2025. BYD’s battery-powered car sales rose nearly 28% to over 2.25 million units during the year.

In comparison, Tesla, led by Elon Musk, sold 1.64 million electric vehicles in 2025, marking a 9% decline from 2024. This was the second consecutive year of falling sales for the US automaker.

Despite declining vehicle sales and operational challenges, Tesla’s stock rose about 18% in 2025. The rally reflects investor confidence in the company’s long-term vision.

Investors are betting on Tesla’s future technologies, including robo-taxi services and humanoid robots designed to perform basic tasks in homes and offices. On the back of these expectations, Tesla shares also gained around 2% in pre-market trading on Friday.
