3.9-magnitude earthquake hits Assam
GUWAHATI [Maha Media]: A mild earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale struck Assam on Thursday evening, three days after a stronger 5.1-magnitude tremor jolted the state and neighbouring areas.
Officials said the latest quake had its epicentre in Udalguri district and occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres.
The tremor was recorded at 7.30 pm at latitude 26.71 degrees North and longitude 92.30 degrees East.
Tremors were felt across central and northern parts of the state, including Guwahati, they said.
No loss of life or damage to property has been reported so far.
On Monday, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck Morigaon district at a depth of 50 km, injuring three people and causing minor damage to houses and other structures in Morigaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur and Nagaon districts.
The northeastern region lies in a high seismic zone, making it particularly vulnerable to earthquakes.
