Beautification drive in Manipur to welcome PM Modi
IMPHAL [Maha Media]: The Manipur government is clearing debris, painting walls anew and repairing roads in Imphal and Churachandpur as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the state on September 13.
The historic Kangla, the ancient seat of Manipur power, will be the venue for the visit and the government is making arrangements for about 15,000 visitors. The Manung Kangjeibung (polo ground) inside the Kangla has hosted previous visits of prime ministers.
The Peace Ground at Churachandpur, where the Prime Minister is expected to land first, will have a smaller sitting capacity of about 9,000 and the visit is significant as the Manipur crisis on May 3, 2024 started in Churachandpur district.
According to state government officials, all security arrangements as per Blue Book, including installation of jammers, sanitization and anti-sabotage checking of the route and function venue at Kangla and Churachandpur, have started.
Two layers of view cutters, CCTV cameras, drone surveillance and door frame metal detectors in consultation with a Special Protection Group team will be in place. The Churachandpur district authority has already ordered complete ban on use of drones.
Horticulture department officials said they will decorate all the venues and airports. Health officials are preparing one fully equipped ALS ambulance and dedicated rooms at JNIMS/RIMS, Imphal and CMC, Churachandpur with all the requisite medical facilities.
The government has also ordered clearance and beautification of the programme site including levelling of the site and lighting for both venues with LED lights for stage.
The repair of the helipad for both the venues is almost over and the roads near the venues will be repaired within the next few days. The Manipur government has asked all departments to furnish details of achievements to the Planning Department.
The Prime Minister has not visited the state since the outbreak of Manipur and there are high expectations from the political parties and the general masses.
The union Home Minister has struck a deal with Kuki Zo militants in New Delhi to identify militants of foreign origins, limit camps, and clear the national highway.
Despite the agreement, the Kuki Zo militant groups and Kuki groups have rejected the decision to stop choking the national highways where Kuki men and women stop vehicles to check if people belonging to a particular community travel on the highway.
