Counting begins for by–polls to 8 assembly constituencies
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: The counting of votes has also begun for the by-elections to eight assembly constituencies spread over 7 States.
These constituencies are Budgam and Nagrota in Jammu and Kashmir, Anta in Rajasthan, Ghatsila in Jharkhand, Jubilee Hills in Telangana, Tarn Taran in Punjab, Dampa in Mizoram and Nuapada in Odisha.
Rajasthan
Congress candidate Pramod Jain Bhaya was leading with a margin of 614 votes after two rounds of counting in the Anta assembly constituency in Rajasthan's Baran district.
Independent candidate Naresh Meena was trailing, while the BJP candidate, Morpal Saman, was in the third position.
The counting will be held in 20 rounds, according to officials.
Jammu and Kashmir
The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Devyani Rana was ahead with a lead of 5,267 votes over Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) candidate Harsh Dev Singh as counting of votes progressed in the Nagrota seat in Jammu on Friday.
By the end of the third round, the BJP polled 11,581 votes, while the JKNPP candidate secured 4,280 votes, followed by National Conference candidate Shamim Begum with 2,464 votes.
Devyani Rana, the daughter of BJP MLA Devender Rana whose demise necessitated the by-election in Nagrota, has established a lead from the start.
Punjab
Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa was leading with a margin of 374 votes against her nearest rival and ruling Aam Aadmi Party candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu from the Tarn Taran assembly segment in Punjab, according to the initial trends.
Randhawa was leading with 7,348 votes as against the AAP nominee's 6,974 votes in the third round of counting.
Randhawa maintained the lead in the first three rounds of counting.
Aam Aadmi Party candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu was leading with a margin of 187 votes against his nearest rival and Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa from the Tarn Taran assembly segment in Punjab, as counting of votes progressed on Friday.
Sandhu was leading with 11,727 votes against Randhawa's 11,540 votes in the fifth round of counting.
The SAD nominee was leading in the first three rounds of counting, but the AAP candidate took over the lead thereafter.
Odisha bypoll
BJP candidate Jay Dholakia was leading as counting of votes was underway for the Nuapada assembly by-election in Odisha on Friday morning, according to the EC.
After seven rounds of counting, Dholakia was leading by 25,346 votes.
BJD's Snehangini Chhuria was at the second spot, followed by Ghasi Ram Majhi of the Congress.
Jharkhand bypoll
JMM candidate Somesh Chandra Soren was leading by 7,541 votes over his nearest rival Babulal Soren of the BJP in the by-election to the Ghatshila assembly seat in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district on Friday, officials said.
After the third round of counting, the JMM candidate secured 16,110 votes, while the BJP nominee got 8,569 votes. JLKM candidate Ramdas Murmu was in the third position with 5,278 votes.
The counting of votes for the Ghatshila bypoll began at 8 am at the Jamshedpur Cooperative College, amid tight security arrangements, the official said.
Mizoram bypoll
Mizoram's main opposition party, Mizo National Front (MNF), on Friday retained the Dampa assembly seat in Mamit district, with its candidate R Lalthangliana defeating his nearest rival, Vanlalsailova of the ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), by a margin of 562 votes, according to the Election Commission.
Lalthangliana secured 6,981 votes, which is 40.23 per cent of the total vote share. With 6,419 votes, Vanlalsailova bagged 36.61 per cent of the total polled votes.
Congress nominee John Rotluangalian stood third, securing 2,394 votes, while BJP candidate Lalhmingthanga clinched fourth place, securing 1,541 votes. People's Conference Party candidate K Zahmingthanga secured 50 votes.
Telangana bypoll
In Telangana's Jubilee Hills constituency seat, the fight is between Congress's Naveen Yadav, a leader from the Backwards Class (BC), and BRS's Sunitha, Gopinath's widow. The BJP has selected Lankala Deepak Reddy as its candidate.
