
Country observes 7th Armed Forces Veterans Day
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: The country is observing 7th Armed Forces Veterans Day today. Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, three service chiefs paid tributes at National War Memorial in New Delhi.
The Armed Forces Veterans Day is celebrated on January 14 every year, as on this day, in 1953, the First Indian Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Indian Army, Field Marshal KM Cariappa, who led Indian Forces to Victory in the 1947 war against Pakistan, formally retired from the Services.
The First Armed Forces Veterans Day was observed on January 14, 2016. It was decided to commemorate this day every year by hosting events in honour of the ex-Servicemen and their families.
The Armed Forces Veterans Day is being celebrated at nine locations across the country including Juhunjhunu, Jalandhar, Panagarh, New Delhi, Dehradun, Chennai, Chandigarh, Bhubaneshwar and Mumbai.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will preside over 7th Armed Forces Veterans Day at Jaswant Ground in Dehradun Cantonment today. He will also launch the 'Soul of Steel Alpine Challenge’ by flagging off a car expedition from Dehradun to Ghamshali located in the Niti Valley. It is a joint adventure sports initiative of the Indian Army and CLAW Global.
The Defence Minister will dedicate Shaurya Sthal to pay homage to the supreme sacrifice and the dedicated service of Armed Forces. AIR correspondent reports that this year, the event is being celebrated at nine locations across the country including Juhunjhunu, Jalandhar, Panagarh, New Delhi, Dehradun, Chennai , Chandigarh, Bhubaneshwar and Mumbai.
