MP: Floods kill 7 in Mandla

BHOPAL [Maha Media]: Monsoon rains have turned severe across several states in North India, leading to flooding, landslides, transportation disruptions, and multiple fatalities.

In Madhya Pradesh, the monsoon has taken a disastrous turn. Floods in Mandla district have claimed seven lives so far. On Friday, flood-like conditions were reported in 10 districts, including Seoni and Chhatarpur. A rain alert remains in effect across all districts, with the possibility of further flooding.

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for very heavy rainfall (up to 8 inches) in 10 districts: Chhatarpur, Damoh, Sagar, Katni, Jabalpur, Raisen, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Chhindwara, and Narmadapuram.

A heavy rainfall warning is in place for 35 districts, including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Shivpuri, Sheopur, Datia, Rewa, Mandla, Balaghat, and others.

According to senior meteorologist Dr. Divya E. Surendran, three trough lines—including the monsoon trough—are active across the state. These systems are expected to persist for the next four to five days, continuing the pattern of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

In Uttar Pradesh, heavy rainfall lashed many parts of state, severely affecting normal life. In Kanpur, a railway track caved in due to the downpour, forcing authorities to halt the Kalindi Express midway. In Lucknow, waterlogging brought traffic to a standstill, with roads submerged knee-deep.

Rajasthan is also facing intense monsoon activity. On Friday, 13 districts, including Bikaner and Jhunjhunu, received up to 4 inches of rainfall.

In Dholpur, a young man drowned in the Parvati River. Flash floods entered shops in Srimadhopur, and in Phalodi, city roads resembled rivers due to the volume of water.

In Uttarakhand, continuous heavy rains triggered a landslide in Uttarkashi, killing a 57-year-old woman. Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh remains severely affected.

184 roads have been closed, and 92 people have died in rain-related incidents this monsoon season. 33 people are still missing, and the threat of further landslides and cloudbursts continues to loom.
