MP: Heavy rainfall affects 24 districts

BHOPAL [Maha Media]: A strong rain system has been active in Madhya Pradesh due to a trough passing over the region, causing significant rainfall on Monday. The Meteorological Department has predicted similar weather patterns for Tuesday, with 24 districts across Gwalior, Chambal, Sagar, Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Jabalpur likely to experience very heavy to heavy rain. A red alert has been issued for Shivpuri and Sheopur, while orange and yellow alerts are in place for other areas.

Forecasts indicate that Shivpuri and Sheopur could see over 8 inches of rain in the next 24 hours. Districts such as Gwalior, Guna, Ashoknagar, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Pandhurna, and Balaghat may receive up to 4 inches of heavy rain. Meanwhile, heavy rain is also expected in Indore, Ujjain, Bhind, Morena, Shajapur, Dewas, Ratlam, Vidisha, Raisen, Sagar, Chhindwara, Seoni, and Mandla. A yellow alert has been issued for districts including Bhopal and Jabalpur.

On Monday, heavy rainfall was reported in more than 20 districts, with Shivpuri recording the highest rainfall of 2 inches. Other areas such as Naugaon in Chhatarpur and Narsinghpur-Khargone saw rainfall of 1.25 inches. Regions including Bhopal, Gwalior, Narmadapuram, Damoh, Jabalpur, Khajuraho, Mandla, Sagar, Satna, Tikamgarh, Balaghat, Barwani, Guna, Raisen, Sheopur, and Ashoknagar also experienced varying degrees of rain.

The heavy rains have led to waterlogging in several areas, notably affecting the Gyan Sthali School residential complex in Lukwasa, Shivpuri, where the SDERF team had to rescue 10 individuals, including two children, trapped inside.

In Sheopur district, the Parvati River is overflowing, leading to the closure of the Sheopur-Baran highway near Kuhanjapur. Additionally, a truck loaded with cylinders sank due to waterlogging in Guna. In Shivpuri, lightning struck a house, cracking windows. Meanwhile, sustained heavy rains in Ashoknagar district have disrupted daily life, with water entering homes in Mungaoli and similar conditions reported in Guna.
