MP: No heavy rain in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain

BHOPAL [Maha Media]: The southwest monsoon remains active across Madhya Pradesh, pushing the state’s seasonal rainfall well above normal. According to the Meteorological Department, Madhya Pradesh has so far received 41.3 inches of rainfall, which is about 12 percent higher than the long-term average. Out of the 52 districts in the state, 30 have already recorded their full quota of rain, while another 10 are on the brink of crossing the mark.

Weather officials have clarified that although the monsoon is still active, there is no heavy rain alert for major divisions like Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Chambal, and Narmadapuram in the coming four days. However, showers are expected in Jabalpur division, where some districts may experience moderate to heavy rainfall.

The state generally expects an average of 37 inches of rainfall during the entire monsoon season. However, by September second week, Madhya Pradesh had already received 41.3 inches, surpassing the quota by 4.3 inches. This translates to nearly 8 inches more rain than expected up to this point in the season.

From the date of monsoon’s arrival on June 16, districts in eastern Madhya Pradesh — Jabalpur, Rewa, Sagar, and Shahdol divisions — have seen the most rainfall. Strong weather systems repeatedly formed in this region, triggering floods in several districts including Chhatarpur, Mandla, Tikamgarh, and Umaria.

The Gwalior-Chambal belt has also witnessed above-average rains, with all eight districts in the region — Gwalior, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Bhind, Morena, Datia, and Sheopur — crossing their seasonal averages.

Rainfall quotas have been fulfilled in Bhopal, Rajgarh, Raisen, Vidisha, Alirajpur, Barwani, Katni, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Mandla, Gwalior, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Datia, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Agar Malwa, Bhind, Morena, Sheopur, Singrauli, Sidhi, Satna, and Umaria.
