MANDI [Maha Media]: In the wake of the devastating floods and landslides that wreaked havoc in parts of north India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took stock of the ongoing disaster response and rehabilitation efforts in Himachal Pradesh after conducting an aerial survey of disaster-hit Mandi and Kullu districts.

The Prime Minister has affirmed that the Government of India stands shoulder-to-shoulder with those affected in the natural disaster(s). "Undertook an aerial survey to assess the situation in the wake of flooding and landslides in Himachal Pradesh. We stand firmly with the people in this difficult time and all efforts are being made to ensure continuous support to those affected," the PM said following the survey.

As per reports of the state emergency operation centre (SEOC), Himachal Pradesh suffered losses to the tune of Rs 4122 crore due to cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains from June 20 to September 8, 2025, while 370 people have died in rain-related incidents and road accidents in the state during the period.

Of the 370 fatalities, 205 were due to rain-related incidents, which include 43 deaths from landslides, 17 from cloudbursts and nine from flash floods. On the other hand, 41 people are still reported missing, while road accidents have accounted for 165 deaths.

The monsoon has caused significant damage, with a total of 6,344 houses, 461 shops and factories being fully or partially affected, besides massive damage to government and private lands, officials said.

The PM is scheduled to chair a high-level review meeting in Dharamshala, where he will be briefed by senior officials from the state administration, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other rescue and relief agencies including local Aapda Mitra volunteers. The meeting will be held in presence of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur and senior state government officials. The PM will also interact directly with victims of the disaster to understand their concerns.

Following his engagements in Himachal, the Prime Minister is scheduled to reach Gurdaspur in Punjab by around 4:15 PM, after conducting an aerial survey of flood-hit regions in the state. Tight security arrangements are in place in Gurdaspur in the wake of the Prime Minister's visit.
