
Priyanka expresses concern over flood situation in NE
GUWAHATI [Maha Media]: Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday expressed concern over the flood havoc in India's Northeastern states.
Vadra is appealing to the state and Central government to expedite the relief and rescue operation to help the marooned people.
It may be mentioned here that incessant rains for the last four days have led to severe flood situation in the northeastern states and triggered landslides in several states of the region.
According to the disaster management authority in the concerned states, at least 30 people have died so far due to flood- and landslide-related incidents.
While five people have died in Assam due to landslides last week, three others have died due to floods in different districts of Assam.
A total of 12 districts in Assam are inundated by floodwaters in the last week, affecting close to 60000 people in 175 villages.
Similarly severe flooding in Arunachal Pradesh has led to severe landslides leading to the death of 9 people.
Incessant rains have also triggered severe problems in Meghalaya, where 6 people died due to landslides, tree falls and lightning.
In Mizoram, 5 died due to landslides, while two others, one each in Nagaland and Tripura, died due to stone falls and floods, respectively.
Vadra, while taking to her X handle, has also appealed to the Congress leaders in the region to stand by the flood hit people and render all possible help.
