MP: Severe cold wave, dense fog continue

BHOPAL [Maha Media]: With each passing day, the state is experiencing dense fog. Over the heavy foggy layers, winters have intensified in the state.

This is the coldest spell so far this winter. Pachmarhi, the state's only hill station, recorded a freezing 0.2°C. In Bhopal, the mercury dropped to 3.6°C, breaking a 10-year record.

The chilly conditions are expected to persist on Thursday, with a cold day alert issued for nine districts. Around 20 districts, including Gwalior, Morena, and Rewa, experienced dense fog on Wednesday morning. Icy winds have led to severe cold across the state, with temperatures dipping significantly over the past two nights.

The cold wave is driven by icy winds from Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, where snow is melting rapidly. Wind speeds reached 268 km/h on Wednesday.

January is expected to remain cold, with 20-22 days of cold wave conditions predicted by the weather department. Stay prepared for more freezing days ahead.

Pachmarhi saw a sharp dip of 6.8°C in a single night, recording 0.2°C. Bhopal followed at 3.6°C. Indore and Gwalior stood at 6°C, while Rajgarh was the second coldest district at 1.6°C. Cities like Mandla, Raisen, and Umaria recorded temperatures below 6°C.
