MP govt increases grants to gallantry award winners

BHOPAL [Maha Media]: Madhya Pradesh, which goes to the polls later this year, has announced a massive hike in cash grants for soldiers from the state awarded gallantry and distinguished service medals by the defence services, with the monetary compensation for the top awards for uncommon bravery such as Param Vir Chakra (PVC) and Ashoka Chakra (AC) increased fivefold, and for ‘mentioned in despatches’ raised more than 200 times.

The one-time cash grant for PVC or AC awardees from the state has been increased from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 1 crore, while soldiers mentioned in despatches will now get a hefty Rs 25 lakh instead of the Rs 12,000 they got earlier.

The government has issued a memorandum for the increase in the grant amount received by the State's permanent resident servicemen who are also recipients of Wartime gallantry service medals and Distinguished gallantry service medals. 

As per new rates of the amount received by the medal recipients will be, Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal(SYSTEM) recipients will receive Rs 10,00,000, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal(UYSM) recipients will receive Rs 7,00,000, Yudh Seva Medal (YSM) recipients will receive Rs 5,00,000, Pram Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) will receive Rs 5,00,000, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) recipients will receive Rs 2,50,000 and Sena Medal (SM) for distinguished service recipients will receive Rs 2,00,000.

Servicemen who will be awarded Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra will receive Rs 1 crore grant amount from the government.

There will be no land allotment for the medal recipients and this order issued by the government will only be applicable to the medal received after the order is issued.
