Neeraj Chopra in hunt of second Diamond League title
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra is preparing for one of the biggest challenges of the season, the Zurich Diamond League Final on August 28, where he will take on the world’s best in an attempt to reclaim the prestigious title. At 27, the two-time Olympic medallist and reigning world champion has been in strong form this year, building momentum ahead of the high-stakes showdown.
Chopra booked his place in the Final after finishing fourth in the overall standings, despite taking part in only two of the four qualifying meets. He skipped the Brussels leg but made his mark earlier in the year. In May, he crossed the magical 90-metre mark in Doha with a huge 90.23m throw, finishing second to Germany’s Julian Weber. A month later, he stormed back at the Paris meet, clinching victory with a solid 88.16m effort.
His latest appearance came at home in Bengaluru, where he competed in the NC Classic on July 5. There, Chopra threw 86.18m to claim the title, delighting Indian fans. Overall, this season has been a consistent one for him- six events, four victories, and two second-place finishes, underlining his reputation as one of the most reliable and dominant athletes in the sport.
The Zurich Final will not be an easy task, with a field packed with elite throwers. Chopra will face defending Diamond League champion Anderson Peters, Germany’s Julian Weber, Olympic gold medallist Keshorn Walcott, former world champion Julius Yego, and Moldova’s Andrian Mardare. Adding to the excitement, home favourite Simon Wieland will also compete, giving Swiss fans plenty to cheer for. All eyes will now be on Chopra as he looks to rise to the occasion and once again stamp his authority on the global stage.
