Iran rubbishes reports that it is laying mines in Hormuz

NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: Iran on Tuesday rubbished reports that it was laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz and said Iranian armed forces are controlling the strategic Strait "very intelligently and authoritatively" and there is no need for laying mines.

Iran’s MEHR News Agency (MNA) quoted spokesperson of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters as saying that Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz and holds the initiative in the Persian Gulf and the territorial waters of Oman.

Iran, 'with full authority,' holds the initiative in the Persian Gulf region and the territorial waters of Oman, and 'very intelligently and authoritatively' controls the Strait of Hormuz, the spokesperson said.

"Therefore, due to sufficient dominance and power, there will be no need for mining in the Persian Gulf, and we will use any means necessary to ensure security," he added.

He said the Iranian armed forces, by maintaining dominance over US and Israel, are capable of ensuring security in the Persian Gulf, and extra-regional countries have no right to interfere in this area.

Iran’s reaction came after CBS News, quoting US officials, said in a report that Iran has placed a number of underwater naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz. The CBS report cited one official as saying there are at least a dozen mines deployed across the waterway, while another put the number at fewer than a dozen.

Western media has, over the past few days, published reports that Iran is laying mines in the area. US President Donald Trump has also said in a post on Truth Social that “if Iran has put out any mines in the Hormuz Strait, and we have no reports of them doing so, we want them removed, IMMEDIATELY!”
