Trump’s sentencing in hush money case postponed indefinitely
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: In the U.S., a judge has postponed sentencing in Donald Trump’s hush money case indefinitely, potentially until 2029, after his second presidential term. Judge Juan Merchan suggested he may dismiss the conviction, allowing Trump to assume office in January without legal complications.
Trump was convicted in May of falsely recording payments to Stormy Daniels as legal expenses, resulting in 34 charges. The case, led by Manhattan prosecutor Alvin Bragg, was brought before a jury of ordinary citizens. Despite the conviction, Trump won the presidency with a popular vote majority.
Judge Juan Merchan cited concerns about sentencing a sitting president as interfering with the office. Trump’s lawyers plan to argue that a Supreme Court ruling grants him immunity from prosecution. They have until December 2 to file dismissal motions, with prosecutors given a week to respond.
Meanwhile, Trump’s federal cases on election interference and classified documents are expected to be withdrawn, while a Georgia election case remains unresolved.
