
Dhanteras: Auspicious day for worship and new purchases
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: The festival of Dhanteras is being celebrated across the country today. It marks the beginning of a series of celebrations, which also include Narak Chaturdashi, also known as Choti Diwali or Kali Chaudas, the main Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj.
Dhanteras is also known as Dhan Trayodashi and Dhanvantri Jayanti. On this auspicious day, people worship Lord Dhanvantari, Lord Kuber and Goddess Lakshmi. This festival is observed on the thirteenth day of Krishna Paksha on the month of Ashwin as per the Hindu calendar.
People consider this as an auspicious day to make new purchases, especially gold or silver articles and new utensils. The day also sees heavy purchases of appliances and automobiles.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to the people on the occasion of Dhanteras today. In a social media post, Mr. Modi prayed for happiness, prosperity, and good health for everyone on the occasion. He expressed hope that Lord Dhanvantari bestows his abundant blessings upon all citizens.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended greetings to citizens on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras. In a social media post, Mr. Shah prayed to Lord Dhanvantari for happiness, prosperity, and good fortune in everyone’s life.
BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda also conveyed his wishes, praying for prosperity, health, and well-being. He expressed hope that the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Dhanvantari would bring wealth, abundance, and joy to all.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday extended his wishes to the people of the country on the occasion of Dhanteras. Taking to the social media platform X, he wrote, “Heartiest greetings of Dhanteras to all my countrymen. May this festival of health and wealth bring happiness, good fortune, and prosperity to your life.”
