Holika Dahan tonight amidst celestial shift
BHOPAL (Maha Media): India is getting ready for a unique week of celebrations as the festival of Holi meets a rare total lunar eclipse. This celestial event has shifted the traditional schedule, creating a three-day celebration starting tonight.
Many families are lighting the traditional Holika Dahan bonfire tonight, Monday, March 2. While some wait until Tuesday, most experts suggest doing it tonight between 6:22 PM and 8:53 PM to avoid the religious restrictions caused by tomorrow's eclipse.
A total lunar eclipse will be visible across India on Tuesday, March 3. As the Moon rises in the evening, it will appear with a deep reddish glow, often called a Blood Moon. In most cities, the best time to see this will be shortly after sunset, between 6:25 PM and 6:47 PM. Because of the eclipse, a period called Sutak begins at 6:23 AM tomorrow, meaning many temples will be closed during the day.
The main celebration, where everyone plays with colours, will take place on Wednesday, March 4. This gives people a chance to celebrate fully once the eclipse has passed and the religious fasts are over.
Astronomers say this is a very special year because a total lunar eclipse is happening exactly during the Holi festival period. It is a rare moment where science and ancient tradition come together, making this year's "Festival of Colours" one to remember.
