Landslide hits hydropower project site in Chamoli

CHAMOLI [Maha Media]: Monsoon rains have brought disaster upon the mountains. Continuous rains in Himachal Pradesh caused a landslide in Manali on Saturday morning. Due to this, the Chandigarh-Manali-Leh National Highway (NH-3) and the road from Solanganala towards Atal Tunnel are closed. A total of 289 roads have been affected by heavy rains in the last 3 days.

Continuous rain continues in Jammu and Kashmir as well. Last night, a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM)'s car was hit by a landslide in Reasi district. A rock suddenly fell on his car. The SDM and his son died in the accident. His wife and two others were injured.

Due to heavy rains, the Amarnath Yatra has been suspended till August 3. Repair work is going on on both the routes of the Yatra, Pahalgam and Baltal. The Yatra was started from the Baltal route yesterday morning, but later the Yatra was stopped due to rain.

The rain in Rajasthan is expected to stop from today. However, flood water has not receded in many districts. Schools have been closed in 11 districts on Saturday. A girl and a young man died in accidents due to rain in Hanumangarh and Sikar.

On Saturday, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for rain in Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, West Bengal and an orange alert in Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh. Apart from these, light to moderate rain may occur in 19 states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi.
