Special AAIB team to probe Baramati plane crash

NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has constituted a special investigation team to probe the charter aircraft crash in Baramati that claimed the lives of five people, including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and members of the flight crew.

As part of the investigation, the AAIB team will recover and examine key technical systems from the aircraft, including the flight data recorder, the Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) and the Digital Engine Electronic System (DEES).

Officials said the probe will also involve a detailed scrutiny of the aircraft’s airframe and engine logbooks, work orders, onboard documentation and records of major inspections, which will be obtained from the aircraft operator.

In addition, documents related to the aircraft and crew will be sought from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Investigators will analyse radar recordings, air traffic control (ATC) audio logs, CCTV footage and hotline communications to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the crash.

The investigation team will also record statements from eyewitnesses and relevant personnel associated with the flight’s operations.

Ajit Pawar was killed earlier on Wednesday when the chartered aircraft crashed while flying from Mumbai to Baramati. He had been in Mumbai on January 27 to attend a meeting of the Maharashtra Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
