IFFI 2025 pays homage to Dharmendra

PANAJI [Maha Media]: After the demise of Hindi cinema's 'He-Man' Dharmendra, everyone is paying tribute to him. In this context, the actor was also paid tribute at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on Tuesday. Filmmaker Rahul Rawail, remembering Dharmendra, said that he was not only a great actor but also a very good human being.

Dharmendra played the role of Mahendra Kumar in Raj Kapoor's film Mera Naam Joker. Recalling this, Rahul Rawail said that Dharmendra was a very hardworking and dedicated actor. He would go to Delhi every day by evening flight, shoot until 5 AM, and then return to Mumbai to shoot for 'Aadmi Aur Insaan'.

Rawail also mentioned about the shooting of Betaab (1983) that during the film's shooting in Kashmir, people used to gather in large numbers to see Dharmendra. After the film's release, Dharmendra would go to watch his son's film at Gaiety Cinema every day and then enthusiastically discuss the film. Today, his children are carrying forward their father's tradition.

Rawail said that Dharam ji was a person whose life was worth celebrating, because he gave a lot of happiness to people. His demise is a great loss for the film industry.

Notably, Dharmendra was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on October 31, even before being admitted on November 10. Even then, he had difficulty breathing. However, when he was admitted on November 10, a close family source told Dainik Bhaskar that Dharmendra's condition was critical and his daughters, Ajeta-Vijeta, had also been called to India from abroad.

Then Bobby Deol also reached the hospital, leaving the shooting of Alpha film. He was discharged on November 12. Subsequently, his treatment was ongoing at home. But then he passed away on November 24.
