National launch of Poshan Pakhwada 2026 on April 9
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: The Ministry of Women and Child Development will launch the 8th edition of Poshan Pakhwada 2026 on April 9, with a renewed focus on strengthening nutrition and early childhood development across the country.
The nationwide campaign from April 9 to April 23 aims to reinforce the government’s commitment to improving nutritional outcomes and promoting holistic development among children, particularly in their formative years.
The national launch event will be held at Vigyan Bhavan from 3 pm to 4 pm, in the presence of Union Minister Annpurna Devi, Minister of State Savitri Thakur, and Women and Child Development Secretary Anil Malik.
Theme Focuses on Brain Development in Early Years
This year’s theme – “Maximizing Brain Development in the First Six Years of Life” – highlights the critical importance of early childhood, particularly the first 1,000 days, in shaping cognitive growth, physical development, and overall well-being.
Scientific evidence indicates that more than 85% of brain development occurs before the age of six, making early nutrition, responsive caregiving, and stimulation essential.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently emphasized the importance of nutrition, stating that a well-nourished child forms the foundation of a strong nation. He has described Poshan Abhiyaan as a people’s movement aimed at ensuring holistic nutrition for every mother and child.
Key Focus Areas
The campaign will focus on multiple aspects of early childhood care and nutrition, including:
* Maternal and child nutrition, with emphasis on breastfeeding and complementary feeding
* Early stimulation for children aged 0–3 years through responsive caregiving
* Play-based education for children aged 3–6 years to support school readiness
* Reducing screen time among young children through community awareness
* Strengthening Anganwadi centres with community participation and improved infrastructure
* Nationwide Activities and Community Participation
During the fortnight, activities will be conducted across states and Union Territories through Anganwadi centres, involving mothers, caregivers, and local communities. These include Poshan Panchayats, awareness drives, early learning activities, and campaigns promoting healthy lifestyles.
The inaugural programme will showcase best practices from across the country, launch key initiatives, and recognise the contributions of frontline workers, especially Anganwadi workers, in delivering nutrition and childcare services.
The event will also be broadcast live via the NIC webcast platform and the Ministry’s official YouTube channel, enabling wider public participation.
Strengthening a Nationwide Movement
Poshan Pakhwada is a key component of the government’s broader nutrition initiative under Poshan Abhiyaan, which has evolved into a nationwide Jan Andolan focused on community participation and behavioural change.
Through this year’s campaign, the Ministry aims to further strengthen public engagement, emphasising that nutrition, early learning, and community involvement together lay the foundation for a healthier and more empowered India.
