Rahul to lead India, BCCI announces squad for ODIs
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India's squad for the ODI series against South Africa. KL Rahul returns as India’s ODI captain after a two-year gap, with Shubman Gill set to miss the series due to a neck injury. According to the news agency, Gill’s injury is more serious than first believed.
The injury has disrupted India's preparations, especially with the team aiming to build strong combinations ahead of next year's T20 World Cup. With ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer also sidelined due to a rib injury, the selectors wanted stability and experience in leadership and have turned to Rahul.
Rahul last led India in December 2023 in South Africa. With uncertainty surrounding Gill’s recovery timeline, he has now taken charge in ODIs.
