Gill, Iyer return as India announce squad for NZ ODIs

NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: India's squad for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand was announced on Saturday, 3 January. Shubman Gill, after missing the ODIs against South Africa due to injury, is back as captain, while Shreyas Iyer too has made a comeback from a spleen injury that had sidelined him for a long time. However, his inclusion is subject to fitness clearance from BCCI's CoE (Centre of Excellence).

India will host New Zealand for a three-match ODI series followed by a five-match T20I series, which will serve as crucial preparation ahead of the T20 World Cup scheduled to begin on 7 February.

Veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli kept their places in the ODI squad, after strong performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Hardik Pandya has not been cleared to bowl 10 overs in a match, according to the BCCI's official statement. Also, keeping in mind the T20 World Cup, he has not been selected as part of his workload management.

India picked two wicketkeepers, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, in the ODI squad. Ishan Kishan, who had earlier been selected in India's squad for the T20Is against New Zealand and also the T20 World Cup, has not been picked. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had scored his first international century in the ODI series against South Africa, was not selected.
