KKR seek turnaround as PBKS ride winning momentum

KOLKATA [Maha Media]: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will take on Punjab Kings in Match 12 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at Eden Gardens, here, with both teams entering the contest in contrasting form and confidence levels.

Kolkata Knight Riders have endured a difficult start to the season, suffering back-to-back defeats and slipping down the points table. Their batting unit has shown flashes of potential but has lacked consistency, with captain Ajinkya Rahane expected to provide stability at the top.

Young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been one of the positives so far, while Finn Allen offers explosive intent in the powerplay. The middle order, featuring Cameron Green, Rinku Singh, and Ramandeep Singh, will need to convert starts into impactful contributions to challenge a strong opposition.

KKR’s bowling attack has struggled for control, with Varun Chakaravarthy yet to find rhythm in the middle overs.

Pace options such as Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi, and Blessing Muzarabani will be key in providing early breakthroughs, while all-round options like Sunil Narine and Anukul Roy add balance. Depth in the squad is further supported by experienced campaigners such as Manish Pandey.

In contrast, Punjab Kings have started the season strongly with consecutive wins and appear well settled across departments.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer has been in good touch and holds an impressive record against KKR, making him a central figure in their batting lineup. Openers Prabhsimran Singh and Cooper Connolly have given solid starts, while the middle order, including Nehal Wadhera, Shashank Singh, and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, provides depth and firepower.

Punjab’s bowling unit has also been effective, led by Yuzvendra Chahal, whose wicket-taking ability in the middle overs will be crucial. The pace attack, featuring Arshdeep Singh, Xavier Bartlett, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and all-round option Marco Jansen, adds both variety and control. Impact players such as Priyansh Arya further strengthen their bench.

The Eden Gardens surface is expected to be batting-friendly, with high scores likely given recent trends at the venue. Conditions under lights may assist chasing sides due to dew, making the toss an important factor, with teams likely preferring to bowl first.

Overall, the contest presents a clear contrast: Kolkata Knight Riders searching for stability and a first win of the season, while Punjab Kings aim to extend their winning streak and consolidate their position at the top of the table.
