PM Modi plays football with children in Sikkim

GANGTOK [Maha Media]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day tour of Sikkim, played football with some boys and girls here on Tuesday morning, and described the soccer session as "energising".

Modi shared on social media a few photographs in which he is seen playing soccer with youngsters.

"Nothing like playing some football with my young friends in Sikkim on a lovely Gangtok morning! Clearly, an energising football session with these youngsters!" the PM said on X.

During his visit, Modi is scheduled to attend the closing ceremony of Sikkim’s 50th statehood celebrations. He will also lay the foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 4,000 crore.

A public meeting is also planned in the state capital, Gangtok, where the Prime Minister is expected to address a gathering.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said he interacted with Padma awardees and several distinguished personalities during his visit to Gangtok, describing the exchange as engaging and wide-ranging.

Taking to X, the Prime Minister wrote: “In Gangtok earlier this evening, interacted with Padma awardees and people who have distinguished themselves in different fields. It was wonderful discussing a wide range of issues.”

He also shared a photograph from the interaction.

Earlier on Monday, Gangtok witnessed a large public turnout during PM Modi’s roadshow in Sikkim for the closing ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the state’s statehood.

Thousands of people from across Sikkim gathered to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister and take part in the occasion.

The streets of the capital city were packed from early morning, reflecting the public response to the Prime Minister’s visit. Residents from remote and far-flung areas travelled long distances to be part of the event, turning the roadshow into a large public gathering with visible participation across the city.
