Bangladesh deploys 12 paramilitary units amid Dhaka violence

NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: Security has been tightened in Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka, following three days of arson and violence. Supporters of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have blocked highways in five districts, including Dhaka.

To maintain law and order, the government has deployed 12 additional Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) units in the city, which are conducting continuous patrols.

According to the BGB headquarters, the deployment of paramilitary forces has been increased in key areas of the capital, where incidents of arson and vandalism of vehicles have been reported in recent days.

The Bangladesh government has previously deployed 14 BGB units in Dhaka and surrounding districts to control the situation and prevent any further unrest.

Supporters of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have intensified their protests. They are demanding that false cases against her be withdrawn and that the election date be announced in February. On Friday, Awami League workers clashed with police.

Two bombs exploded near the international airport in Dhaka early Friday morning. Prior to the announcement of the verdict against Hasina on November 13, the Awami League organized protests across the country.

In response, activists from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami took to the streets in several areas of Dhaka and even held processions in some places.

The International Crimes Court (ICT) will deliver its verdict on crimes against humanity charges against Hasina on November 17. Hasina is accused of inciting violence during the 2024 student protests.
