Fire erupts at iconic UK Submarine shipyard
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: A fire erupted at the BAE Systems shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness early Wednesday morning, necessitating the hospitalization of two individuals due to smoke inhalation, according to Cumbria Constabulary. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that there is no risk of nuclear contamination.
Video footage circulating on social media captured dramatic scenes of flames and thick black smoke engulfing the Devonshire Dock Hall, while alarms echoed through the area. Local resident Donna Butler described the smoke as intense and alarming.
The shipyard, renowned for constructing nuclear-powered submarines for the Royal Navy, including future replacements for the UK's nuclear missile carriers, advised nearby residents to stay inside with windows and doors closed as a precaution.
