US shuts Musk led DOGE department

NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: The United States government has abruptly shut down the DOGE Department, a key administrative restructuring body created under billionaire Elon Musk, nearly eight months ahead of its planned schedule.

The department, launched on January 20, 2025 through an executive order by President Donald Trump, was originally expected to operate until July 4, 2026.

According to multiple US media reports, the DOGE Department either directly terminated more than 250,000 federal employees or pushed them out through buyouts and early retirement schemes.

The agency was initially highly active, but Reuters reported that several of its senior officials have now been reassigned to different government departments following the decision to shut it down.

DoGE was created to make the federal government "smaller, faster, and cheaper", in line with Trump’s broader "Project 2025" reform blueprint.
