MP govt hands over Twisha Sharma death case to CBI
BHOPAL (Maha Media): The death of actress-model Twisha Sharma will now be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), after the Madhya Pradesh government granted its consent for the probe.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav had assured the family of support when Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, accompanied by retired soldiers, met him on May 20. During the meeting, the Chief Minister said the government would extend all possible assistance to the family.
He also stated that if the court orders a second postmortem, the government would arrange transportation of Twisha’s mortal remains to AIIMS Delhi. Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha had also demanded a CBI inquiry into the case.
The family of Twisha Sharma filed a plea in the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday seeking a second post-mortem, citing flaws in the first one conducted by AIIMS Bhopal.
The family's appeal to the high court comes two days after a lower court turned down their plea.
Meanwhile, the anticipatory bail plea filed by Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, came up for hearing before the Jabalpur bench of the High Court on Thursday.
During the proceedings, Advocate General Prashant Singh sought additional time to present the case diary before the court. Following the request, the court adjourned the hearing until 2:30 PM.
The matter is being heard by Justice A.K. Singh’s summer vacation bench.
Twisha Sharma’s family has opposed Samarth Singh’s anticipatory bail plea. Her father, Navnidhi Sharma, alleged that Samarth served as a legal advisor to the Madhya Pradesh government between July 2023 and August 2025 and is attempting to influence the case while absconding.
Navnidhi Sharma has also written to the Police Commissioner, demanding the removal of Katara Hills police station in-charge Sunil Dubey from the investigation.
Twisha was found dead on the night of May 12 at her marital home in Bhopal's Katara Hills area, prompting a dowry death and harassment case against her husband, advocate Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh.
