VP Radhakrishnan addresses 8th convocation of Nagaland University

NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Friday addressed the 8th convocation ceremony of Nagaland University at its Lumami campus in Nagaland, emphasising the importance of unity, youth empowerment and continued development in the North-East.

Addressing students and faculty as the chief guest, the Vice-President said it was a pleasure to begin his first visit to the North-East from Nagaland after assuming the V-P office. He described the state as a place where “nature, culture and courage blend in harmony,” and noted that the true strength of Nagaland lies in its people and their vibrant traditions.

Highlighting the idea of unity in diversity, V-P Radhakrishnan said India’s strength comes from the shared bonds among its people despite cultural and regional differences.

The Vice-President commended Nagaland University for its role in expanding higher education in the region since its establishment in 1994 after being carved out of North Eastern Hill University. He said the institution has strengthened access to quality education and made notable contributions in several fields, including the establishment of a cancer research laboratory and efforts to document indigenous Naga languages and customary laws.

Congratulating the graduating students, V-P Radhakrishnan urged them to pursue progress with purpose while maintaining a balance between development and environmental preservation. He also encouraged the youth to live responsibly and remain committed to nation-building, while firmly rejecting drug abuse.

Referring to rapid global changes, he stressed the need for continuous learning and upgrading of knowledge and skills to adapt to emerging challenges and opportunities.

The Vice-President highlighted the Centre’s focus on the development of the North-East under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He pointed to initiatives such as the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE), which supports infrastructure, social development and livelihood projects aimed at generating opportunities for the youth and accelerating inclusive growth in the region.

V-P Radhakrishnan also referred to the tripartite agreement signed in February 2026 between the Central government, the Government of Nagaland and the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation under the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He expressed confidence that the agreement would help address long-standing concerns and promote peace and development in the state.

The Vice-President also appreciated the efforts of Nagaland Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Rector of Nagaland University, and the state government in advancing peace and development initiatives.

Highlighting infrastructure growth in the North-East over the past decade, V-P Radhakrishnan said that while infrastructure connects regions, it is interaction among people that strengthens national unity.

During his visit, the Vice-President also laid the foundation stone for the HEFA Phase II buildings at Nagaland University.

Among those present on the occasion were Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister T. R. Zeliang, Chancellor of Nagaland University Samudra Gupta Kashyap, and Vice-Chancellor Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, along with other dignitaries.
