India's 1st private orbital rocket Vikram-1 set for launch

NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: India's first privately developed orbital launch vehicle, Vikram-1, is set for its maiden test flight, with Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace announcing a launch window between July 12 and August 4. The mission marks a major milestone for India's private space sector and could pave the way for faster and more flexible deployment of small satellites.

If successful, Vikram-1 will make India one of the few countries capable of reaching orbit through a privately built rocket, strengthening the country's position in the global commercial space industry.

Vikram-1 has been designed to carry small satellites into orbit on demand, reducing dependence on scheduled launches and enabling quicker deployment for government and commercial customers.

The rocket is expected to support sectors such as agriculture, communication, navigation, disaster management, weather forecasting and national security by facilitating timely satellite launches.

Ahead of the launch, Skyroot Aerospace founder Pawan Kumar Chandana said the company's launch model differs from that of SpaceX.

He compared SpaceX to a train that carries passengers to fixed destinations on fixed schedules, while Vikram-1 is designed like a cab that can deliver satellites to specific orbits as required.

According to Chandana, demand for such customised, on-demand launch services is expected to grow rapidly.
