Trump picks Sergio Gor as new US Ambassador to India
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: US President Donald Trump on Friday appointed Sergio Gore as the next US ambassador to India. He has also been assigned the responsibility of Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. Sergio Gore will replace Eric Garcetti, the former US ambassador to India.
Garcetti served in this position from 11 May 2023 to 20 January 2025. After Garcetti’s departure, the US Embassy in Delhi was being managed on an interim basis by Chargé d’Affaires Jorgen K. Andrews.
Gore came into the spotlight in May after a controversy with Tesla chief Elon Musk. Musk had called Gore a 'snake' on the social media platform X. The issue arose when Musk recommended his close associate, Jared Isaacman, to Trump for nomination as NASA chief.
Trump had nominated Isaacman in December 2024. His nomination received support from the space community and the Senate.
However, on 31 May 2025, Trump withdrew Isaacman’s nomination at Gore’s advice.
