Sharmila Tagore to be honoured at the IFFD

NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: Veteran screen icon Sharmila Tagore will be felicitated for her lifelong contribution to Indian cinema at the upcoming International Film Festival Delhi 2026, to be held from March 25 to 31 at Bharat Mandapam, the convention centre located in the Capital.

A towering figure in both Hindi and Bengali cinema, Tagore will be honoured during the weeklong festival in recognition of a career that spans over six decades.

Known for her versatility and depth as a performer, she has been associated with some of the most significant cinematic works in Indian film history, leaving a profound and lasting influence on the industry.

“Film festivals are vital spaces where cinema from across the world comes together in dialogue. I am delighted to be part of the International Film Festival of Delhi and deeply honoured by this recognition. I look forward to being at the festival and celebrating the diversity of stories and voices that make cinema so special,” says Sharmila Tagore.

The festival has received 2,187 entries from more than 100 countries, reflecting strong international participation. Of these, 1,372 are international submissions while 815 are Indian films, covering both feature and non-feature categories.

Organised by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation in association with the Government of Delhi, the festival aims to present a broad range of cinema to audiences in the capital. While the main screenings will take place at Bharat Mandapam, additional screenings are planned at multiplexes and open-air venues across the city.

According to organisers, the programme will feature a mix of Hindi, international and regional Indian cinema, with roughly 40 per cent Hindi films, 30 per cent international films and 30 per cent regional titles.

In addition to mainstream categories, the festival will also include dedicated sections focusing on patriotic, spiritual and children’s cinema.

Alongside film screenings, the event will host industry conversations and discussions intended to bring together filmmakers, professionals and audiences.
