History of Hartalika Teej:
The history of Hartalika Teej finds its roots in ancient Indian mythology. The word "Hartalika" is a combination of two Sanskrit words: "Harat" meaning abduction and "Aalika" meaning female friend. The festival commemorates the reunion of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva, following the efforts of Parvati's female friend to help her unite with her beloved.

According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Parvati undertook intense penance to win Lord Shiva as her husband. Her determination and devotion impressed Lord Shiva, and he agreed to marry her. However, Parvati's father, King Himalaya, was not aware of this union. He had promised her hand in marriage to Lord Vishnu. Faced with this dilemma, Parvati's female friend played a crucial role. She devised a plan to abduct Parvati and take her to a dense forest, where she could marry Lord Shiva in secret. This abduction occurred on the third day (Tritiya) of the bright half of the lunar month of Bhadrapada, which is now celebrated as Hartalika Teej.
