Acharya Chaturvedi sheds light on the significance of fasting
PRAYAGRAJ (Maha Media): During the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela, renowned Katha Vyas Acharya Ramvilas Chaturvedi, while delivering the Shiv Mahapuran Kathamrit Pravah at Maharshi Ashram, delved deep into the significance of fasting and the role of the human senses.
Acharya Chaturvedi posed a thought-provoking question, "Why do we fast while chanting hymns?" He explained that food leads to the senses becoming outward-focused, whereas spiritual practices require inward focus. Fasting helps us achieve this inward focus. He further elaborated that our senses, especially taste, are driven by desires, including hunger and the desire for specific foods. The pleasure of taste diminishes as hunger is satiated. True control over the senses lies in fasting, making it an ideal path for spiritual attainment.
The Katha Vyas emphasized the importance of discipline during fasting, stating that activities like criticism and anger can break the fast. He also highlighted the subtle difference between fasting and a complete fast.
Acharya Chaturvedi mentioned that attaining the love of the divine mother is challenging but not impossible. Regular chanting and three daily prayers can pave the way, especially under the guidance of a competent guru. He emphasized the significance of guru diksha (initiation by a spiritual master) and urged devotees to focus solely on the divine name.
Sharing a captivating story from the Shiv Mahapuran, Acharya Chaturvedi narrated the tale of Devi Maina, who performed austerities for 27,000 years and was blessed by the mountain king. Her daughter was destined to marry Ardhanarishvara, the combined form of Shiva and Shakti.
The Katha Vyas explained that a guru tests his disciple before initiation, much like a goldsmith purifies gold before crafting jewelry. He compared this process to the burning away of impurities through spiritual knowledge.
Highlighting the contributions of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and Brahmachari Girish, Acharya Chaturvedi praised their efforts in promoting Indian culture and spirituality worldwide. He also emphasized the importance of guru diksha and the distinction between a householder's guru and a renunciate's guru.
The Shiv Mahapuran Katha, which is being held from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, has been drawing large crowds who are deeply engrossed in the spiritual discourse.
